The Nutcracker (referred to as The Chinese New Year in this Chinese version) is a full length ballet based on Peter Tchaikovsky’s Music of The Nutcracker. It is produced by the National Ballet of China and was first performed in Feb, 2000. A fusion of Chinese culture and western classical ballet music, it tells the intriguing story of a Chinese family celebrating the Chinese New Year (commonly known as the Spring Festival).
The company has restaged this ballet with major revisions made to its story and choreography complete with a new stage design. The bold exploration and reflection on the cultural fusion between the East and the West makes this charming ballet an event not to be missed this December.
